What's New: New Infrastructure
Prism Deploy has a new SQL database as its repository for storing information about the Channel. The SQL database makes Prism Deploy version 6.0 extremely scalable, flexible and powerful, and it enables companies to leverage their existing technology investments. Prism Deploy 6.0 includes a Channel Migration Tool to migrate pre-6.0 Channels to the new SQL database.
  Console Enhancements
The Prism Deploy 6.0 Console now gathers and displays extensive information from managed clients, including whether they are on- or offline, their last contact with the Channel Server, their IP address, the name of the logged-in user and more.
  Security Roles
Prism Deploy version 6.0 allows you to create security roles within the Console. For instance, a Help Desk administrator may be able to create and assign Tasks, but may not be allowed to add or remove Clients from the Channel. A manager may be assigned the role of report reader only. Roles can be customized and created to suit an IT organization's structure.
  Reports
Prism Deploy has an all-new report interface which includes extensive filtering, report customization and export options. Version 6.0 includes several new reports, including Administrator Action Log, Computer Status Report and others.
  Wake on LAN
Prism Deploy version 6.0 can now wake computers that are powered down before deploying a Task, enabling after-hours deployments.

Note: Target computers must have supporting hardware. Wake on LAN is not supported on Windows 95.
  Checkpoint Restart
Prism Deploy version 6.0 will now pick up where a deployment left off, should the connection between the target and the Task be dropped. Checkpoint restart ensures deployment reliability, especially over less stable links, and enhances support for remote users.
  Package Authentication
Prism Deploy Packages can now be signed with a digital certificate. Clients can be restricted to only install Packages from a trusted source, for exceptionally secure deployments. Packages can not be viewed or edited by administrators who do not have access to the digital certificate.

Note: The minimum requirements for Client computers to support Package Authentication are: Windows 98 and Internet Explorer version 5; NT computers must be running Service Pack 4 or above.

  Component Installation
Prism Deploy 6.0 components can be installed on separate systems, making Prism easy to install, configure and use. The component installation enables greater flexibility to separate packaging, deployment and reporting functions among appropriate IT staffers.
  Permissions Deployment
Prism Deploy version 6.0 can now capture file, folder and registry permissions that may be required by certain applications. This gives administrators the option of adding the necessary permissions within a Prism Deploy Package and distributing them along with the application.

Note: Permissions deployment is only supported on computers running Windows 2000 and above.

  Quick Start Templates
The new Quick Start Channel, included as an option when installing Prism Deploy 6.0, provides powerful templates for illustrating Smart Update™ technology. Smart Update helps users take advantage of automatic targeting and maintenance of computers based on their configuration.
Feature Modifications:

Rollback files now adjust for daylight savings time changes when determining if a file or folder should be rolled back.

Prism Deploy packages and self-installing files (SIFs) being deployed through batch files and other processes outside of the deployment Console now wait until they have finished applying before moving on to the next command in the batch file or script.

Who Should Install: Any customers who are running Prism Deploy 5.1 or earlier.
Module(s) Affected: All (Editor, Deployment Console, Server, Client, Services, Conflict Checker)

Feature Modifications:

The evaluation of Configuration Group rules that are based on IP or NIC addresses has improved methods for managing memory and internal configuration storage, and also eliminates a rare fatal error.

The assignment of a recurring task to an unlicensed or disabled computer, or the assignment of a disabled recurring task to a computer will no longer cause performance problems on the target computer or the Prism Deploy Server.

Configuration Groups based on user-specific settings (e.g. HKEY current user values) will now correctly populate.

Tasks assigned through an Organizational or Configuration group to multiple user computers will now correctly uninstall for all users of the computer.

Self-Installing files (SIFs) will only perform a reinstallation of the PrismXL service on the target computer when it is necessary.

Command tasks are now better able to open documents on older operating systems, to open web addresses, and to open documents whose file type association contains an unexpected parameter.

Prism Deploy now better reflects changes in Organizational Group membership as computers change their OU membership in Active Directory.

Repeat at Logon and Repeat at Startup tasks now execute properly on computers that change Configuration Group membership at user logon or system startup.

  Advanced Scheduling Options
New Task scheduling interface is more intuitive and has more options, including scheduling recurring tasks (based on time or system event). Administrators can also easily update or repair a task that may have failed previously.
  Enhanced Task Automation
New Installation Rules and configuration-based scripting options provide instant access to hardware, software and network configurations of target computers. Installation rules are built directly into a package.
  Full Windows Installer Support
Prism Deploy 5.0 includes copies of InstallShield Developer and Tuner products. Windows Installer files (including Prism-built MSIs) can now be edited and customized for deployment. Prism Deploy also deploys MSIs.
  Microsoft SMS Integration
Administrators can now build PDFs and MIFs for seamless integration with Microsoft SMS. The PDF option makes it simple to deploy a Prism Deploy Package from SMS; the MIF option ensures reporting to the SMS status and inventory reports.
Fixes: The way computers report their names in the Channel has been completely redesigned. This addresses the issue where computers may alternately appear in the channel with their host name or their Active Directory name.
The startup logic for all components of Prism Deploy has been improved. Among other things, the improvements fix the issue reported by some customers that multiple Prism client icons appeared in the system tray.
Prism no longer uses the TEMP folder to store baseline Pictures.

Module(s) Affected: All (Editor, Deployment Console, Server, Client, Services, Conflict Checker)

What’s New:

Report Archiving Fix
In version 4.0 of Prism Deploy there were performance problems with the report archiving. This was the major cause of the "Pending" issue where Tasks that had actually deployed successfully on a target system still reported that they were "Pending" in the report window. The handling of report archiving has been improved to eliminate the erroneous reports of "pending" tasks.

  Windows XP Support
Additional items have been added to the Ignore Folders, Ignore Files and Ignore Registry sections of Prism Deploy's rules.ini file to prevent capturing unnecessary information in packages built on the Windows XP platform.
  Command Fix
In version 4.0 certain command tasks were not handled properly. When a command task pointed to a UNC path and the command required the use of a switch when the command executed, Prism Deploy would incorrectly parse the command. For example, version 4.0 would interpret "\\computer\folder\program.exe /q" as "\\computer\folder\program.exe \q". This has been fixed.
  Prism XL Service Fix
In version 4.0, the Prism XL service would incorrectly stop when a logoff occurred. Occasionally the timing was such that the client would make sure that the service was running during the time between the logoff and the service receiving notification of the logoff. The client would then get a message that "The Prism XL Service is not installed/started" when it would try and gain access to a restricted resource. Prism now correctly leaves the Prism XL service running after a logoff.
Revision Availability: Download the latest release of Prism Deploy.
Who Should Install: All customers and evaluators.
